Job Placement Service - Attorney Placement in Omaha |
OBA's JOB PLACEMENT SERVICEConnecting Attorneys with Employment Opportunities in the Omaha Metro AreaNo Cost to Post a Position / No Cost for Attorneys to Use the Service / Confidential for Job Seekers & Job Posters / Referral Fee Only Paid (By Employer) If Successful The Omaha Bar Association is pleased to now offer its Job Placement Service for Omaha area attorneys and employers! The purpose of the Service is to (1) assist attorneys looking for employment/new employment, (2) help law firms/employers looking for attorneys, and (3) strengthen the legal community as a whole. What you need to know: All attorneys are welcome to utilize the Service for free, regardless of OBA Membership status. Any
attorney who is looking for employment in the legal profession in the
Omaha metro area is invited to use the service. This includes: (1)
attorneys looking to relocate to Omaha from elsewhere, (2) local
attorneys looking to change employment, (3) unemployed local attorneys,
and (4) inactive attorneys. At this time, the Service is generally not
accepting applications from law students attending Creighton Law or UNL
Law (we ask those students to utilize their schools' Career Services
Offices), but will accept limited applications from 3L students outside
of Nebraska. All Omaha-area law firms/employers are welcome to post job openings for free with the Service. There
is no cost to post a job with the Service, and each posting will be
promoted publicly for one month (post can be renewed for up to 3
months). The public-facing job posting will include a description of the
position and requirements/qualifications, but will not include the name
of the employer. A more in-depth description of the job posting will be
submitted to the Service, to be used confidentially when searching for
potential matches. Qualified and interested attorneys will be screened
by the Service, and if determined to be a good match, the Service will
reach out to the employer with referral information on the attorney, and
contact details to be used by the employer for follow up to set up an
interview with the job seeking attorney. There is a contract that is
required to be signed by the job poster, regarding a referral fee owed
to the Service should a hire be successfully made through the connecting
efforts of the Service. All attorney applicants will be screened by the Service prior to any potential referral. Through
a personal interview process, the Service seeks to better understand
what job seekers are wanting in their work, their work culture, and long
term plans, thus focusing on better long term fits for both the
attorney and the employer. Too often in the interview process, job
seekers and employers aren't willing to be honest about what they are
looking for, and this leads to a short and tumultuous employer/employee
relationship. The Service's screening process seeks to get to the core
of what the attorney's ideal work environment looks like, but also as
important what their red lines are that would lead to an unhappy
employee attorney. The Service serves as a connector between the job seekers and the employers. We
aren't a temp agency for attorneys, and we aren't a hiring agency for
law firms or other employers of attorneys. The Service is a referral
source, working to connect good possible attorney hires with employers
looking for quality leads for interviews. We highly recommend (as close
to insist as we possibly can) all employers utilize a complete interview
process for all applicants who are referred by the Service. If an employer is successful in hiring someone through the help of the service, a referral fee is owed to the OBA. If
an attorney is hired through the help of the Service, a referral fee is
owed. If the employer has current OBA members in their employ when the
job posting is first submitted, the fee is 5% of the attorney's starting
gross salary. If the employer does not have an OBA member in their
employ, the fee is 7.5% of the attorney's starting gross salary. The fee
is due within 90 days of the attorney's start date. There is a reduced
fee schedule for attorneys who do not stay employed for more than half a
year. If an attorney job seeker gains employment through connecting
efforts of the Service, no further work can be done by the Service to
connect the attorney with another potential employer prior to (1) 16
months of employment at employer found through the Service, or (2)
termination of employment at said employer. Confidentiality is key to the success of the Service. Attorneys that utilize the Service will have their information kept confidential. Only once the attorney gives the go ahead will their name be communicated to the potential employer. Likewise, employers' detailed job description (for Service use) will be kept confidential, and the Service will only inform job seekers of the name of the potential employer if they are determined to be a good fit for referral. We understand that some law firms don't want it publicly known that they are looking to hire attorneys, and therefore the default position is confidentiality. The Service is exclusive to attorney positions in the Omaha area. At this time we are not including legal support staff positions in our job postings, nor are we accepting applications from paralegals, legal assistants, etc. Fully remote attorney work positions that can be done by Omaha attorneys are welcome.
