OBA Member Committees
The Omaha Bar Association supports and maintains a number of committees for the benefit of its members and the organization. The committees are critical to the vitality of the OBA, and all members are encouraged to become involved in a committee. More information on committees can be found below.
The Lawyer Referral Service Committee oversees and advises the OBA's Lawyer Referral program. This committee meets quarterly to discuss and give direction to the Lawyer Referral Service Executive Director regarding issues such as public information campaigns, panel size and lawyer recruitment, and referral policy changes.
The Newsletter Committee is in charge of creating the OBA's quarterly newsletter. This committee meets quarterly to discuss content for the next issue and assign stories. More committee members are always welcome to join and write stories for the publication.
The Law Day Committee is charged with planning and executing the Law Day luncheon event in Omaha every year. The committee meetings are generally scheduled between January and April every year, with the event taking place on or around May 1. Both OBA members and legal support staff serve on this committee.
The Walk Through the Courts Committee is in charge of an annual event the OBA hosts free of charge for newly admitted lawyer that provides valuable practice tips not necessarily taught in law school. Presentations are made by judges, attorneys, and court administrators over the course of one day. Committee members assist in coordinating those presentations.
The Corporate Counsel Committee is organized for the benefit of the attorneys that share a background and/or practice in a corporate counsel setting, or are outside counsel for a corporate entity. General transactional attorneys are also welcome to be a part of the committee. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need. Meetings have included special speakers in relevant practice areas, as well as discussion of best practices, and general discussion.

The Solo/Small Firms Practice Committee is organized for the benefit of those attorneys in law practice by themselves or in a small firm practice. Meeting discussion topics include best practices for time management, legal research on a budget, managing support staff, and billing. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need. This is a good committee for young practitioners looking to meet and learn from more experienced lawyers.

The Courts Committee addresses any issues or concerns that arise between attorneys and the judiciary and/or court administration. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Public Service Committee is organized as a vehicle for OBA members who want to be involved with events and initiatives in the community that are public service oriented. This committee is involved in the selection of the Public Service Award recipients every Law Day. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Programs Committee assists in the general planning and executing OBA events and activities throughout the year. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Memorial Committee organizes the annual OBA Memorial Service that takes place every May, which recognizes those members of the legal community who have recently passed. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Historical Committee is charged with the oversight of the historical records and memorabilia of OBA, and assist and support historical events and programs in the legal community. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Legislative Committee is charged with reporting to the OBA membership legislative updates that affect the practice of law in the community. These reports have traditionally been published in the OBA Newsletter.
The Membership Committee is in charge of OBA member recruitment and retention. All members are welcome to join the committee as a reason to invite non-members to attend upcoming OBA events as a guest.
The Continuing Legal Education Committee plans, organizes, and executes CLE offerings provided by or supported by the OBA, including the annual complimentary ethics CLE hosted at Creighton University every April. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Technology Committee oversees the utilization of technology into OBA events and membership, including but not limited to website design and function, social media communications, and online presence and branding. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
The Medical/Legal Committee oversees the planning and execution of the annual Medical Legal Dinner. The Medical Legal Dinner promotes dialougue and relationship-building between the legal and medical professionals in Omaha. Committee meetings are scheduled as the chair determines their need.
